YMCA Soccer

Well, we lost our first Under-8 soccer game by a wide margin, a lot to zero. Our team didn’t seem too disheartened by the slaughter, so that’s good. Several of our players haven’t ever played before, so they’re still learning the fundamentals. It’s hard to teach more advanced concepts like spacing, dribbling with your head up, passing and running to space, controlling the ball, being aggressive, etc., to 6 and 7 year olds. The hardest concept of all for them to get is that a soccer kickoff is exactly the opposite as in football – you aren’t giving the ball to the other team, but it’s your ball and you are trying to keep it. But seeing as we’ll have lots of kickoffs, hopefully we’ll learn this by the season’s end.
