Preparing for Worship

We should approach going into our Father’s house for worship (or better, “gathering with our Father’s house” – since we, the people of God, are the house of God) as something akin to a Thanksgiving feast. In Psalm 36:7-8, David exclaims, “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; and You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.” Do you look forward to gathering for worship? Do you see it as a time to drink deeply of the river of God’s delights? Do you come to drink your fill of the abundance of His house? Do you spend time in the word, in prayer, with other Christians? If your church has a Sunday evening service, do you return for seconds, as it were, to be satiated with God’s word again? May the Lord grant that we come thirsty and hungry for Him and His lovingkindness in Jesus Christ.
