Do You Thirst for God?

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?” Do we yearn for God the way the sons of Korah did? Do we long to spend time with Him in the word and prayer? Do we long to lead the saints in procession to the house of God, with the voice of joy and thanksgiving (42:4)? Do we long to gather in corporate worship on the Lord’s Day? The psalmists’ longing for God was all the greater because of how far away from God they felt – “Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence” (42:5). When we are far away from God, do we sense it? Is our conscience tender and soft, or hardened and callous? Do we more often not realize for several days that we have been away from fellowship and communion with God?

May the Lord enable us to thirst for Him, to know we’re thirsty, and to come drink deeply of His lovingkindness.

Ezra
