Mary’s Voice

I preached the funeral service for the 44 day old daughter of our friends Landon and Kandice Vick this morning. Not an easy thing to do. But there are few things that unite the hearts of God’s people like tears, especially when they are wept over a casket so small. It was a privilege to be a part of comforting God’s people – but I was most impacted by the words of another one of our friends, Robert Row, who endured the exact same trial 13 years ago, and of Landon himself. You can read his words here – even if you heard him speak, you probably missed half of what he was saying because you were wiping the tears away from your eyes. May the Lord give us grace to continue to support the Vicks, and to continue to learn the lessons Mary was sent to teach us.

Thank you so much for your honesty in preaching, and not hiding your emotions behind a wall. But then again, how could you with Mary’s story? I Don’t think I will ever for get Landon’s parting story and Kandice’s parting words to mary “go to Jesus, sweet baby girl, go to Jesus,”. Wow.
