Our God is the Lord of the winds…

“Whatever Yahweh pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps. He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; who makes lightnings for the rain, who brings forth the wind from His treasuries” (Ps. 135:7). It isn’t easy to see such devastation in Oklahoma City, and at the same time sing Psalm 135. Yet we must, for in the truth that the winds blow from God’s treasury lies our only hope for comfort and peace. Job knew the winds of God that took away the lives of children (Job 1:18-19), and we should pray that his response and words will be on the lips of His people in Oklahoma: “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshipped. He said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away, blessed be the name of Yahweh” (Job 1:20-21).

Let us weep with those who weep this morning, and pray that the Lord will sustain the brokenhearted, give His church grace to minister in His name to those afflicted, and cause His people to trust ever more deeply in His sovereign, wise, and powerful love.
