With William Plumer in Romans, Day 7 – Evening

Romans 1:1-2
NAS – Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh,
KJV – Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

“There is nothing in the plan of redemption and in the sufferings of Christ that may not well fill us with wonder. But which part of the amazing history is the most astonishing, none can say. Yet many sober writers speak as if they regarded Christ’s being made of the seed of David as unsurpassed in condescension, v. 3. Perhaps it is. Surely the Incarnation was an expression of infinite love and pity.”
