A Beautiful Home

From the memoirs of John Leighton Wilson, 19th century Presbyterian missionary to Africa, describing Presbyterian homes in South Carolina in the early 1800s:

“Each home was provided with a bookcase, in which was found Scott’s or Henry’s Commentary, the Family Library, the Presbyterian standards, a number of volumes of sermons, and ancient and modern histories. The voice of prayer and praise was heard morning and evening, the children were taught to work and to obey; they were instructed in the Catechism and the holy Scriptures, and brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. It was a godly community. There was a church in every house” (pages 11-12).

May the Lord build such homes in our day!
